The premium mid-range segment has seen many new launches this year in 2021 from brands like Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung, and Motorola where each one of them is targeting the audience by providing a valuable smartphone that has almost all the specifications of budget flagships. Xiaomi and Samsung have always been neck to neck in each and every price segment for the past many years.

After the success of the Xiaomi Mi 11X (Review), there was a huge expectation from Xiaomi and they came up with a smartphone that speaks a new design philosophy in the form of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite (Review). Now they have come up with its 5G version called the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite NE 5G that sports a nice 90Hz AMOLED display, has a powerful Snapdragon 778G chipset, and comes with a good set of cameras.

Samsung is also having a look at this premium mid-range segment and now they have bought the best smartphone of the M series called the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G which feels like a worthy upgrade over the last year's Galaxy M51. This too has a 120Hz AMOLED display, a powerful Snapdragon 778G chipset, has a full-fledged OneUI 3.1, and a massive battery.

So will the Galaxy M52 take over the premium mid-range segment or is Xiaomi looking for the top spot thus holding the ground better? Let's find out in the full comparison.

In terms of design, both the smartphones have a completely different design philosophy where the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is aimed at the buyers who want a very sleek smartphone that is lightweight and has a premium glass back when compared to the polycarbonate back on the Galaxy M52. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has a mirror finish at the back that shines and has a squarish camera module.

The Galaxy M52, on the other hand, has some vertical lines running on the back and has a rectangular camera setup housing the quad cameras. In terms of weight, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite NE 5G weighs around 157grams which makes it by far one of the lightest smartphones in the market whereas the Galaxy M52 weighs around 171grams and also in terms of thickness, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is thinner of the two.

The back of the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has an IP52 rating which makes it splashproof but on the Galaxy M52, there is no protection as such. On the sides, both have volume buttons and a power button and on the top, both get a secondary noise-canceling microphone and the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G gets an IR Blaster. 
The Galaxy M52 gets a hybrid SIM card slot where it accepts a nano-SIM card with either a microSD card or another SIM card.

The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G only sports a dual nano-SIM card slot and there is no slot for storage expansion.  The bottom of both smartphones house the  USB Type-C port, a primary microphone, and a loudspeaker grille. So clearly in terms of build and design, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is better than the Galaxy M52.

Both these smartphones have Full HD+(1080x2400 pixels) AMOLED display but there are some differences. Since the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is smaller it also has a screen size of 6.55-inches whereas the Galaxy M52 has a slightly larger 6.7-inches display. The Galaxy M52 has a 120Hz refresh rate which is slightly higher than the 90Hz refresh rate on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

The Galaxy M52 has a higher 240Hz touch sampling rate compared to 180Hz on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. In multi-tasking, the Galaxy M52 feels slightly faster and also has slightly better touch responses in multiple games. But the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has a 10-bit color display that can produce more colors compared to 8-bit on the Galaxy M52. 

And also the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has Dolby Vision in the display which makes the color more vivid and saturated while watching content but still the Super AMOLED Plus display on the Samsung has better viewing angles. Though both these displays are AMOLED, you still get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which is equally fast and accurate on both.

There is support for HDR10+ and Widevine L1 on both these displays so streaming HD contents from OTT platforms and YouTube but Netflix supports HDR on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G but it is restricted to HD on the Galaxy M52. If you want a better touch response and refresh rate, then the Galaxy M52 is perfect but if you want to consume HDR content, then the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is better as it has a 10-bit display.

Both the Galaxy M52 and the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset which is an octa-core chipset having 4x2.4GHz Kryo 670 cores and another 4x1.8GHz Kryo 670 cores coupled with an Adreno 642L GPU. This chipset is one of the most stable chipsets from Qualcomm that provides great performance and has no heating issues as such.

This chipset could handle all the tasks without breaking a sweat whether it was scrolling through webpages, multitasking between applications, rendering videos, and also while playing games like Call Of Duty Mobile, BGMI, etc. In BGMI, both could easily achieve Smooth with Extreme and HDR with Balanced settings. In Mi 11 Lite NE 5G, we noticed some frame drops while gaming which was not the case with the Galaxy M52.

After playing games for 3-4 hours on both smartphones, the back of each of them did not heat much but the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G was feeling slightly warmer compared to the Galaxy M52. Xiaomi has provided a liquid cooling system in the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G though. Even in CPU throttling tests, the Galaxy M52 could easily maintain sustained performance much better compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

There were a lot of ups and downs (throttling) in the graph of the CPU throttling test on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The Galaxy M52 had a consistent performance with no such throttling noticed. In terms of benchmarks like Antutu v8, Geekbench 5.1, both the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G and the Galaxy M52 scored almost the same numbers with very few differences between each of them.

In terms of RAM and storage, both the smartphones are available in two variants - 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM with 128GB storage where the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has slightly faster UFS 2.2 memory compared to UFS 2.1 on the Galaxy M52. So considering the performance and gaming, both smartphones are equally good but the Galaxy M52 edge ahead as it has better-sustained performance.

The Galaxy M52 runs on OneUI 3.1 with Android 11 out of the box whereas the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has MIUI 12.5 with Android 11 out of the box. Both these user interfaces come with a lot of features but both of them have a considerable amount of bloatware and some third-party applications that do throw in necessary notifications but this time Xiaomi has lesser bloatware compared to Samsung.

The Galaxy M52 comes with a full-fledged version of OneUI which has all the features like a proper Samsung Pay, Knox Security that works as a security layer between hardware and software, Secure Folder, AltZ Life, etc. You get a tone of customizations also like MIUI whether it is icon shape and size, different styles for the Always-On Display, and combined with the 120Hz refresh rate, everything feels smoother.

MIUI on Mi smartphones provides a better software experience with no bugs as such and also MIUI is great when it comes to battery optimizations and RAM management. You get almost all the features as provided in OneUI. In terms of software updates, both smartphones are slated to get two years of Android OS updates and three years of security patches but OneUI provides slightly faster updates.

So the software is a personal preference but overall, the OneUI is much more streamlined and offers a smoother experience.

Both the Galaxy M52 and the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G have a triple camera setup where the former has a 64MP f/1.8 Samsung GW3 sensor for the main camera, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera. The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G also has the same main camera sensor as the Galaxy M52 but has an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 5MP macro camera that acts as a 2x zoom camera also.

The images from both the main camera comes out with good dynamic range on both but the Galaxy M52 does slightly better compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G and also the color looks more natural and the noise is also lower on the Galaxy M52. The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G does suffer from oversharpening that takes place in the background which is not the case with the Galaxy M52.

During the night, the images from the main camera on both come out with good details and dynamic range but here the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G takes the lead in terms of dynamic range and also has less noise compared to the Galaxy M52. Using the dedicated Night Mode, the images come out with slightly better dynamic range and less noise on both but the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is slightly better in terms of colors.

In terms of ultrawide camera, the Galaxy M52 has a slightly larger 12MP ultrawide camera compared to the 8MP ultrawide camera on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The color looks more natural on the Galaxy M52 and also the noise is slightly lower compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. Both do suffer from distortion around the edges but still, the dynamic range is better on the Galaxy M52.

The images do have softer details during the night but the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy M52 does a good job during the night in terms of details and also has less noise compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.
Both do also have a dedicated Night Mode for the ultrawide camera and here also the Galaxy M52 outperforms the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

The 5MP macro camera on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G takes better images with a good amount of details and has a better dynamic range compared to the Galaxy M52. The macro camera on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G also doubles up as a telephoto camera where you can go as close as 2cm when focusing on a subject whereas the Galaxy M52 gets a fixed focus macro camera that takes images with washed-out colors and a lot of noise.

The portraits come out better on the Galaxy M52 with good dynamic range and the skin tones also look natural compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The edge detection is equally good on both and both have less noise in the background. In terms of selfies, the Galaxy M52 has a larger 32MP f/2.2 camera compared to the 20MP f/2.2 camera on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

The selfies come out with natural skin tones on the Galaxy M52 and the noise is also lower compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The details look better and the dynamic range is also better on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The portrait selfies come out better on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G with better edge detection and also there is very little oversharpening in the background that takes place.

In terms of videos, both smartphones can record 4K videos at 30fps from the rear main camera. The videos have slightly better details and dynamic range on the Galaxy M52 compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has less noise than the two and also has better stabilization as it implements EIS whereas EIS is available at 1080p at 60fps on the Galaxy M52. 

The 1080p videos at 60fps come out good on both smartphones but the Galaxy M52 has slightly better details and dynamic range compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The EIS works well on both smartphones. The videos from the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy M52 it has a slightly larger field of view and the details look sharper with very little noise compared to the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

The videos from the front camera come out with a slightly better dynamic range on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G compared to the Galaxy M52. The portrait videos come out better on the Galaxy M52 though as there is no oversharpening as such which is present on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. So on an overall basis, the cameras are better on the Galaxy M52 but when it comes to the front camera, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is better.

In terms of battery capacity, the Galaxy M52 has a larger 5000mAh battery compared to a 4250mAh battery on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G. The Galaxy M52 with the 120Hz AMOLED displays lasts slightly more than the 90Hz AMOLED display on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G as you are getting around 6-7 hours screen on time on the Galaxy M52 which is slightly better than 5-6 hours screen on time on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

With heavy usage, both smartphones easily lasted for one single day which includes playing games like BGMI for 3-4 hours, streaming social media for 2-3 hours, and video rendering. With normal usage, both the Galaxy M52 and the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G last easily for two days with the Galaxy M52 lasting slightly more with more charge left.

When it comes to charging, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has a faster 33W charger inside the box compared to the 15W fast charger bundled with the Galaxy M52. The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G takes around 55-60 minutes for a full charge from 0 to 100 percent whereas the Galaxy M52 takes around 1 hour 30 minutes for a full charge which is very time-consuming. 

Though you have support for 25W fast charging on the Galaxy M52 you have to buy the 25W charger separately. So clearly in terms of battery life, the Galaxy M52 is better but when it comes to charging speeds, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is better, and overall, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G edges here in terms of battery life.

The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G comes with a set of stereo speakers which is much better than the single speaker present on the Galaxy M52. The audio quality is better on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G and the missing stereo speakers are a big miss on the Galaxy M52. Both lack a 3.5mm headphone jack though.

Both the Galaxy M52 and the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G are very good smartphones that offer some very good specifications. They have a lot of similarities like both have an AMOLED display, triple camera setup and both have user interfaces with a lot of bloatware. However, there are a lot of differences between both smartphones.

The Mi 11 Lite NE 5G has a better build and design as it gets a very slim design with a glass back instead of the polycarbonate back on the Galaxy M52 and also it is very lightweight which makes it very easy to hold. When it comes to cameras, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G sports a good triple camera setup and also has good battery life with faster charging. The audio quality of the two is also better on the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G.

The Galaxy M52, on the other hand, has a good 120Hz AMOLED display, a good triple camera setup, good battery life, and also OneUI provides a great software experience. However, the place where it misses out on is the build and design as it gets a polycarbonate back, there is a 15W fast charger supplied inside the box whereas it supports 25W fast charging and also has a single speaker setup.

So on an overall basis, if you want a smartphone that has the best build and design, the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G is a great product, and plus it has a nice 90Hz AMOLED display, a good triple camera setup, and good battery life with fast charging. However, the Galaxy M52 is a perfect fit for those who want a 120Hz AMOLED display, a good triple camera setup, and a great software experience with the build and design not being the priority.
