OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

Is the Mi 10T Pro better than the OnePlus 8T?

OnePlus 8T is a great flagship from OnePlus as it packs in quite the best in terms of features like a 120Hz display, 65W fast charging, latest Android 11 out of the box with OxygenOS that continues to remain the highlight for OnePlus smartphones.

On the other hand, Xiaomi has come up with the Mi 10T Pro which you can say a slightly different Mi 10 but packs in some specifications that are huge in numbers like a 108MP camera, 5000mAh battery, and a 144Hz display. So both these smartphones provide quite a lot and are interesting to buy.

Will the powerful specifications of Mi 10T Pro come out ahead or will the OnePlus 8T go ahead with by providing the best of software and hardware? Let's find out in the full comparison.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Design:

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

In terms of design, both the OnePlus 8T (Review) and the Mi 10T Pro (Review) have a glass sandwich design with Corning Glass 5 on both the front as well as back. Both the smartphones have a punch-hole display on the front and minimum bezels to the sides.

On the back, the Mi 10T Pro gets a larger rectangular camera setup that houses three cameras with a LED flash and an automatic brightness sensor. The camera bump is huge and the smartphone sometimes wobbles while kept on the table. On the other hand, like most of the budget Realme smartphones, the OnePlus 8T gets a similar look to the camera housing which includes four cameras and an LED flash.

The Mi 10T Pro is slightly curved at the back compared to the OnePlus 8T and at the back, since both are made of glass, the Mi 10T Pro has a glossy finish with a reflection when holding it at different angles. The OnePlus 8T has a frosted finish that feels less slippery and provides a better grip than the Mi 10T Pro.

The Mi 10T Pro also catches more fingerprints than the OnePlus 8T. The Aquamarine Green color looks attractive and compared to the Lunar Silver, provides a better grip on the OnePlus 8T. Moving to the sides, both get a power button with volume buttons and here the OnePlus 8T gets an additional alert slider.

At the bottom, both have a loudspeaker vent, a USB Type-C port, dual SIM card trays and both of them lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. Both lack a microSD card slot for storage expansion as storage will not be a big problem as both ships with a base storage of 128GB.

The Mi 10T Pro gets an IR Blaster to control televisions, refrigerators, etc, and a small LED notification light also. There is no official IP rating on both but both have P2i coating which makes them splash resistant. Both also lack support for wireless and reverse wireless charging also.

Overall, with the alert slider and the frosted glass finish that provides better grip and lighter in weight i.e. 188 grams of the OnePlus 8T compared to 218 grams on the Mi 10T Pro, the OnePlus 8T feels a tad premium over the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro in terms of build quality.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Display:

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

Both the smartphones have huge displays and have a punch-hole camera on the front and have slimmer bezels to the sides. The display on the MI 10T Pro is at 6.67 inches which is slightly larger than the 6.55 inches display on the OnePlus 8T. Both have Full HD+ resolution (1080x2400 pixels) but differ in display panels.

The Mi 10T Pro has an IPS LCD display panel whereas the OnePlus 8T gets a Fluid AMOLED display. Both the displays look brighter and when it comes to brightness and viewing angles, it is always the AMOLED that holds a stronger point here and is better than the IPS LCD panel.

Both displays have support for higher refresh rates but the one on the Mi 10T Pro has a 144Hz refresh rate compared to the 120Hz refresh rate on the OnePlus 8T. The Mi 10T Pro display has a feature called the AdaptiveSync display where the display switches to different refresh rates depending on the load of the applications.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

For example, when you are watching a video on YouTube, the display is set at the standard 60Hz but when gaming the display switches back to 144Hz thus making the touch responses slightly better and faster. The refresh rate on the OnePlus 8T can be chosen between 60Hz and 120Hz only.

Talking about brightness, under direct sunlight, the legibility of the display on the OnePlus 8T was better than the Mi 10T Pro with better viewing angles also. This due to the 1100 nits of brightness on the OnePlus 8T compared to 650 nits on the Mi 10T Pro. Even in low-light or dark, the OnePlus 8T is better than the Mi 10T Pro.

The OnePlus 8T has an optical in-display fingerprint scanner compared to the side-mounted power button that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner and is slightly faster compared to the in-display one on the OnePlus 8T. The face unlock is faster on the OnePlus 8T though.

OnePlus 8T

Both have support for HDR playback and have Widevine L1 too. The OnePlus 8T gets an Always-On Display which the Mi 10T Pro lacks. Overall, the AMOLED display feels better than the IPS LCD on the Mi 10T Pro, so display wise, the OnePlus 8T has the better display of the two.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Performance:

Both the OnePlus 8T and the Mi 10T Pro are powered by the latest and greatest processor from Qualcomm which is the Snapdragon 865. This is an octa-core chipset which has: 1x2.84 GHz Kryo 585 Prime core + 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 585 Gold cores (both of them based on Cortex A77) and another 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 585 Silver cores (based on Cortex A55) and has the powerful Adreno 650 GPU.

So coming to day-to-day performance on a daily basis, both smartphones ran smoothly without any lag, and coming to gaming, all heavy games like Call of Duty, Asphalt 9 Extreme ran smoothly without any lag, and the high refresh rate works well too.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Antutu

The OnePlus 8T comes in two variants that include 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and another 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. The Mi 10T Pro is only offered in one variant that is the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Both have the faster UFS 3.1 storage for reads and writes but the RAM on the Mi 10T Pro is the faster LPDDR5 compared to LPDDR4X on the OnePlus 8T.

The Mi 10T Pro gets liquid cooling that sustains peak heat and maintains the performance of the smartphone thus the glass back does not heat up much. Both smartphones have their respective gaming modes i.e. Fnatic Mode on the OnePlus 8T and Game Turbo on the Mi 10T Pro.

Since both the smartphones have the same chipset, the benchmark scores do not differ much. On Geekbench 5.1, the Mi 10T Pro scored 910 and 3279 in single and multi-core tests which almost close to 888 and 2993 on the OnePlus 8T.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

The OnePlus 8T runs on the newer Android 11 compared to the Android 10 on the Mi 10T Pro. Both have different custom skins where Mi 10T Pro runs on MIUI12 and OnePlus 8T runs on the latest OxygenOS 11.

Both are very good custom skins and provide all the features as both have a system-wide dark mode, navigation gestures, Digital Wellbeing, and their respective gaming modes. The MIUI12 provides a much-improved software experience compared to earlier versions of MIUI as it has a cleaner look.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

On the other hand, OxygenOS provides one of the best software experience as it is almost close to Stock Android. It provides a lot of customizations and has no third-party applications pre-installed as on MIUI. Now MIUI has a dedicated app drawer and the most interesting of all is the Super Wallpapers.

OxygenOS 11 is a slightly different iteration from its previous versions as it looks more or less like OneUI on Samsung smartphones but there is the Zen Mode, Fnatic Mode for gaming and there is an Always-On display with different clock styles.

OnePlus 8T

The Mi 10T Pro gets the newer Control Center which resembles much like iOS and GameTurbo shows the CPU and GPU temperature while gaming. However, there are a lot of animations and ads present which is a bit annoying compared to OxygenOS.

Coming to Android and software updates, OxygenOS provides three years of software and Android upgrades compared to two years on MIUI. So in terms of software experience, the OnePlus 8T holds the edge.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Cameras:

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

OnePlus 8T

Both the smartphones sport a different camera setup where the Mi 10T Pro has a 108MP main camera, the OnePlus 8T ships with a 48MP main camera. Both have an ultrawide and macro camera The OnePlus 8T has the older 48MP Sony IMX586 main camera which is a last-year-old camera sensor, whereas, like the Mi 10, the Mi 10T Pro has the newer Samsung Bright HMX1 sensor.

The OnePlus 8T gets a 16MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP monochrome sensor whereas the Mi 10T Pro gets a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 5MP macro camera.

Coming to the main camera, the images taken from both the smartphones have good details but the color saturation and dynamic range are better on the OnePlus 8T slightly but when you zoom into the image, the larger 108MP camera brings out much better details than the OnePlus 8T which do look a bit softer.

In low-light and night, the images from both the smartphones come out good with punchier colors. The Mi 10T Pro details are good but there is some noise. When you zoom into the image, the details look good but the OnePlus 8T with the lower 48MP sensor beats the Mi 10T Pro in terms of exposure as it has higher ISO levels and the dynamic range is slightly better than the Mi 10T Pro.

OnePlus 8T

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

The colors do look a bit over-saturated on the OnePlus 8T, but here the noise is handled very well and highlights in shadows are well retained. Turning on the Night Mode on both the smartphones, the Mi 10T Pro turns the images with better details and improves the dynamic range. Though it is very difficult to differentiate between the images on both the smartphones using the Night Mode.

OnePlus 8T

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

Both the smartphones lack a telephoto camera which is present on the Galaxy S20 FE (Review). So using the main camera, the Mi 10T Pro can go up to 10x digital zoom whereas the OnePlus 8T is restricted at 5x but still, the details are better on the OnePlus 8T as the dynamic range is better and the noise is less.

OnePlus 8T

Similarly, at night, the ultrawide camera on the OnePlus 8T performs better compared to the Mi 10T Pro as it has better exposure and dynamic range. The Mi 10T Pro tries to blow some of the highlights and there is quite a bit of noise present but there is a lot of noise in the OnePlus 8T images. The Mi 10T Pro has better details.

OnePlus 8T

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

Both get a 5MP macro camera, so the images come out good on both. The Mi 10T Pro gets autofocus which helps it focus depending on how close the subject is and the dynamic range is better on the Mi 10T Pro. The colors also look more natural on the Mi 10T Pro compared to the OnePlus 8T.

OnePlus 8T

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

In terms of portraits, the OnePlus 8T uses the main camera and has an additional monochrome sensor whereas the Mi 10T Pro uses the main camera only. The portraits come out slightly better on the Mi 10T Pro as it uses the 108MP sensor and the edge detection is better than the OnePlus 8T.

The OnePlus 8T has punchier colors of the two and has a better dynamic range. The background blur is good but not as good as on the Mi 10T Pro. When you zoom in, clearly, the OnePlus 8T has better details whereas the details on the Mi 10T Pro look a tad softer.

On the front, the Mi 10T Pro gets a larger 20MP camera compared to the 16MP camera on the OnePlus 8T. The colors on the Mi 10T Pro look more natural compared to OnePlus 8T which tends to look oversaturated. However, the noise levels are lower on the OnePlus 8T and the dynamic range is also better.

The selfie portraits come out better on the OnePlus 8T with good dynamic range and have better background blur compared to the Mi 10T Pro. The OnePlus 8T thus performs slightly better than the Mi 10T Pro in terms of front camera.

Both the smartphones have support for 4K at 60fps. The Mi 10T Pro goes a step above and provides 8K video recording at 30fps. Both have OIS and EIS, so the video footage comes out good on both with punchier colors. The noise is slightly less on the OnePlus 8T and the colors look more natural compared to the Mi 10T Pro.

Moving to the ultrawide camera, both the smartphones have their respective Ultra Stable modes which result in good stabilization in videos but the dynamic range is better on the OnePlus 8T and the colors look punchier than the Mi 10T Pro.

On the front, both the smartphones can record 1080p videos at 30fps. The videos on the OnePlus 8T have better dynamic range and the colors look punchier than the Mi 10T Pro. The Mi 10T Pro though offers more video modes for shooting compared to the OnePlus 8T.

So clearly, with the main camera and the ultrawide camera, the OnePlus 8T is the better one and if the macro camera and the larger camera sensor matter the most, the Mi 10T Pro is the better of the two.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Battery Life:

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

The Mi 10T Pro sports a slightly larger 5000mAh battery compared to the 4500mAh battery on the OnePlus 8T. With normal usage and the display is set to 144Hz and 120Hz respectively, both the smartphones can easily last for one and a half days.

Moving to charge speeds, here the OnePlus 8T outshines the Mi 10T Pro as it supports 65W fast charging compared to 33W fast charging on the Mi 10T Pro. The 65W Warp charger takes the OnePlus 8T from 0 to 100 percent in 38 minutes which is considerably faster than the Mi 10T Pro which takes around 1 hour 10 minutes to charge it completely.

OnePlus 8T

Both do not have support for wireless or reverse wireless charging but do support USB Type-C PD fast charging. Overall, in terms of battery life and charging speeds, the OnePlus 8T is the better of the two.

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Audio Quality:

Both the smartphones have support for stereo speakers where the sound quality is good on both. The sound quality is slightly better on the Mi 10T Pro as the levels of loudness are slightly better on the OnePlus 8T which has a slightly muffled sound at larger volume levels.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

Both lack a 3.5mm headphone jack, so using third-party earphones or a pair of USB Type-C earphones, the sound quality is better on the Mi 10T Pro and both do support Dolby Atmos for enhanced sound quality. So in terms of audio, the Mi 10T Pro is better.

Verdict:

OnePlus 8T vs Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

It was a very close competition between both the smartphones and here we can clearly see that the Mi 10T Pro sports larger specifications like a 108MP camera, 5000mAh battery, 144Hz display and has the powerful Snapdragon 865 chipset. The OnePlus 8T, on the other hand, has the faster 65W charging, OxygenOS, and a good set of cameras.

With the Mi 10T Pro, you are getting a larger display, a slightly higher refresh rate, a higher-capacity battery, and that massive 108MP camera. The cameras are good on the smartphone and MIUI 12 provides a good overall software experience but still, it is not as clean as OxygenOS. It has an IPS LCD display compared to AMOLED displays in other smartphones in this price segment.

This is where the OnePlus 8T shines as it brings with it an AMOLED display with a higher refresh rate and the OxygenOS provides the best in terms of software experience. Though it may have the older 48MP Sony sensor, the images from the main camera as well as the ultrawide camera come out better.

It also has the faster 65W charging and the frosted finish on the back feels better on the OnePlus 8T and is also lighter than the Mi 10T Pro which makes it easier to handle.

If you want that massive 108MP camera, 144Hz display, and better audio quality, then the Mi 10T Pro is the one to go as it is also cheaper compared to the OnePlus 8T. But considering everything, the OnePlus 8T edges slightly ahead of the Mi 10T Pro which makes it the better pick of the two.
