Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T: How do they stack up against each other and see which one is the better of the two

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T

Is the Galaxy S10 Lite better than the OnePlus 7T?

Samsung and OnePlus have been neck in neck when comparing each of their smartphones in the market. OnePlus always provides top of the line specifications at a good price while Samsung provides not so great specifications but it includes a good set of cameras and great battery life.

This year Samsung shook the mobile industry by launching two of its products in its Lite series of the 2019 flagship smartphones namely the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite. The Galaxy S10+ and the Note 10+ gathered a lot of attention with their newer designs and this year both the Lite versions continue to impress.

Both the Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite provide good value as they have good specifications by not skipping on the essential ones at a lower price tag.

Here we would look at the Galaxy S10 Lite which comes with a powerful Snapdragon 855 chipset and some great features at a lower price tag of Rs.39999 which is almost half of the price of the Galaxy S10+. The sub Rs.40000 has been dominated by OnePlus 7T for quite some time with its high refresh rate display, faster charging, and good performance.

Now Samsung wants to get a slice of the pie as it has a good competitor in the form of Galaxy S10 Lite which will take on the OnePlus 7T and see whether the Galaxy S10 Lite is worth buying over the OnePlus 7T or will OnePlus 7T continue to rule this segment?

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Design:

The OnePlus 7T sports a frosted glass finish at the rear which makes it look premium. Both front and rear have Gorilla Glass 5 protection. On the other hand, the Galaxy S10 Lite comes with a new build called Glastic which is a mixture of both glass and plastic. Both the devices have volume buttons and the power button on the side.

However, OnePlus 7T has an additional alert slider to control sound and other notifications which is quite handy to use. In the front, the Galaxy S10 Lite sports a larger display of 6.67 inches compared to 6.55 inches on the OnePlus 7T.

The OnePlus 7T comes with a teardrop notch on top housing the front camera whereas the Galaxy S10 Lite comes with a punch-hole display (the same module that is present on the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+).

On the back, the OnePlus 7T has a circular camera module housing three cameras and a LED flash. The Galaxy S10 Lite gets a new design with a large module with three cameras and a LED flash. This newer design will become the norm for many upcoming Samsung smartphones in 2020.

The newer Galaxy A51 also has the same design and the upcoming Galaxy S20 will also have it. Neither of the devices has an IP rating but is splash-proof and OnePlus 7T comes with a P2i coating to protect it from rain. Both have a USB Type-C port at the bottom which has support for fast charging.

There isn't a 3.5mm headphone jack on either of these but here the Galaxy S10 Lite provides USB Type-C earphones in the box. The Galaxy S10 Lite has a hybrid SIM card slot whereas the OnePlus 7T lacks support for microSD card expansion.

Looks are personal preference so some might like the punch-hole display or some may prefer the teardrop notch. However overall the OnePlus 7T holds the edge as it gets a frosted glass finish and P2i coating over the Galaxy S10 Lite.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Display:

On the front, the Galaxy S10 Lite has a 6.67 inches full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a screen to body ratio of 20:9. There is a punch hole cut out in the display and on the sides, the bezels are very small which makes it look premium.

The OnePlus 7T on the other hand sports a full HD+ Fluid AMOLED display, so the viewing angles on both the smartphones are great and the colors look vibrant on both the displays. Both the displays support HDR content and Widevine L1.

The OnePlus 7T gets a 90Hz refresh rate so with it you get smoother scrolling and faster opening and closing of applications. While playing games, the higher refresh rate provides a good immersive experience.

The Galaxy S10 Lite, on the other hand, has slightly better brightness levels compared to the OnePlus 7T. So with a better refresh rate, the OnePlus 7T holds the edge when it comes to displaying.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Performance:

Both smartphones are powerhouses when it comes to performance. Many Samsung smartphones in the past weren't that good when it comes to performance in this price segment but this time Samsung has gone for a Snapdragon 855 chipset for the Galaxy S10 Lite.

The Galaxy S10+ launched last year came with Exynos 9820 and in some parts of the world, it came with Snapdragon 855 chipset. So when it comes to performance, though it is a Lite version, the smartphone is a beast when it comes to daily performance and gaming. OnePlus 7T has the Snapdragon 855+ chipset which is a slight upgrade over the Snapdragon 855.

The Prime core in the Snapdragon 855+ is clocked at 2.96 GHz compared to 2.84 GHz on the Snapdragon 855. The other configuration remains the same with the 3x2.42 GHz Cortex A76 Kryo 485 + 4x1.78 GHz Cortex A55 Kryo 485 cores both coupled with Adreno 640 GPU.

So coming to GPU, there is a 15% increase in performance in the Snapdragon 855+ so you may expect better gaming performance.

Both smartphones handle small to heavy tasks with ease. When it comes to gaming, heavy games like PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9, etc. run smoothly on both smartphones at the highest graphics settings. The 90Hz panel on the OnePlus 7T provides a smoother and faster experience compared to the Galaxy S10 Lite.

When it comes to synthetic benchmarks like Antutu v8, the OnePlus 7T scores 489892 which is slightly ahead of the 455427 on the Galaxy S10 Lite and also in Geekbench 5.1, the OnePlus 7T also scores 760 and 2742 in single and multi-core tests over the 737 and 2522 on the Galaxy S10 Lite.

The OnePlus 7T vibration motor is also better than the Galaxy S10 Lite so it provides the better haptic feedback of the two. You won't notice any difference between both but when it comes to benchmarks, the Snapdragon 855+ has a slightly better score over the Snapdragon 855.

The OnePlus 7T ships with UFS 3.0 storage which is faster compared to UFS 2.1 on the Galaxy S10 Lite. So you get faster read and write speeds with the OnePlus 7T. So in terms of performance, the call is very close between the two, and here the OnePlus 7T edges ahead by a slight margin.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Software:

Coming to the software, both the smartphones run Android 10 out of the box. The difference lies in the user interface where Samsung came up with OneUI 2.0 with the Galaxy S10 Lite and OnePlus with the OxygenOS has been going very well. The OneUI 2.0 in the Galaxy S10 Lite brings many improvements over its previous versions.

There is a system-wide dark mode, bringing changes to the Pro and Night Modes in the camera and much more. Then there is support for full-fledged Samsung Pay. It provides a good overall experience to all Samsung users as the OneUI has been worked very much to provide a smoother experience.

OnePlus devices' beauty is the OxygenOS which provides experience almost close to Stock Android. With the Shelf, a dedicated app locker, and the great Fnatic Mode while gaming, OxygenOS provides all features necessary to the user, and plus it has a faster opening and closing of applications to better device optimizations compared to the OneUI 2.0 in the Galaxy S10 Lite.

Herewith the faster UFS 3.0 storage and combined with OxygenOS, the OnePlus 7T holds the edge. This doesn't mean that the Galaxy S10 Lite is behind, but compared to OneUI, OxygenOS with its tone of customizations wins this round.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Camera:

Both the devices come with a triple camera setup but the implementation is a bit different between both. Both have the same 48MP main camera with an ultrawide camera and coming to the third one, OnePlus 7T has a telephoto camera whereas Samsung has gone for a macro camera for the Galaxy S10 Lite.

The OnePlus 7T has a 48MP f/1.6 Sony IMX586 main camera + 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera with a 117-degree field of view and a 12MP f/2.2 telephoto camera

The Galaxy S10 Lite goes for a 48MP f/2.0 Sony IMX586 main camera + 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera. Both the smartphones have OIS and dedicated Night modes for the cameras.

The photos come out good from the main camera from both the smartphones. But the level of detail is slightly better on the Galaxy S10 Lite as there is very little noise in the photos and the exposure in the background also is better. Switching to low light or night, here also the Galaxy S10 Lite captures better details whether it is the shadows and subjects.

With the dedicated Night Mode on both the smartphones, the OnePlus 7T has better colors in the photos but the Galaxy S10 Lite has less noise in the photos overall. Both the smartphones take good photos from the main camera but the Galaxy S10 Lite holds an edge by a slight margin.

The ultrawide camera on the OnePlus 7T is a 16MP which has a wider field of view compared to the 12MP one on the Galaxy S10 Lite. However, when it comes to photos in daylight, the OnePlus 7T takes wider shots with good details but the Galaxy S10 Lite has more natural-looking colors and with the HDR it blows away the photos taken from the OnePlus 7T.

Coming to low light, both have a dedicated Night Mode so the photos come out equally good from both of them. The Galaxy S10 Lite produces better details and the noise level is much low.

The OnePlus 7T has slightly better wider photos whereas the Galaxy S10 Lite has cropped out photos. Switching to the third camera, the OnePlus 7T has a 12MP telephoto camera that has 2x optical zoom and takes very good photos.

The Galaxy S10 Lite on the other hand has a dedicated 5MP macro camera that takes good macro shots and the OnePlus 7T uses the ultrawide camera to take macro shots. So the level of detail is much better on the OnePlus 7T and the edge detection works perfectly for the shots compared to the Galaxy S10 Lite. Both have HDR and here with the HDR on, the Galaxy S10 Lite takes better photos between both.

Coming to the front, the Galaxy S10 Lite has a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera whereas the OnePlus 7T has a 16MP front camera. Both take good photos but here the 16MP of the OnePlus 7T has better details and edge detection. The Galaxy S10 Lite also takes good photos but the dynamic range for the OnePlus 7T is slightly better.

Coming to portraits, the edge detection works well on the Galaxy S10 Lite as it marks perfect subject separation from the background thus providing better background blur. The OnePlus 7T also takes good portraits but the photos come out more naturally on the Galaxy S10 Lite.

Switching to videos, both smartphones support 4k@60fps. OIS works well for both the smartphones and captures good stable videos. However, the videos which may be 1080p@60fps or 4k@30fps, the Galaxy S10 Lite has better stabilization and produces more natural-looking colors in the videos. The dynamic range is also wider on the Galaxy S10 Lite compared to OnePlus 7T.

Now with the Night Mode, the Galaxy S10 Lite holds an edge. In an ultrawide camera, the OnePlus 7T takes wider videos with good dynamic range but the Galaxy S10 Lite has better details in the videos.
Samsung has packed the Galaxy S10 Lite with a tone of video features like Live Focus which is a kind of a portrait video where the camera focuses on the subject by blurring the background while shooting a video.

Then there is a Super Steady mode which eliminates shakes and provides better-stabilized videos compared to OnePlus 7T. However, the only downside to this mode is that is restricted only up to 1080p, not 4k. The videos taken from the Galaxy S10 Lite's ultrawide camera has better details and provides more vibrant colors.

The OnePlus 7T takes good photos but the Galaxy S10 Lite has an edge whether it is photos and videos.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Battery Life:

The OnePlus 7T sports a 3800mAh battery that supports 30W Wrap charging whereas the Galaxy S10 Lite gets a larger 4500mAh battery which supports 25W fast charging. From moderate to heavy usage, the Galaxy S10 Lite easily lasted for two days which is much better compared to the OnePlus 7T which lasts for a single day.

The Galaxy S10 Lite also has a power-saving mode which is much more optimized than the one on the OnePlus 7T. Coming to charging speeds, the OnePlus 7T takes around 58 mins to charge completely whereas the Galaxy S10 Lite takes around 1hr 10mins so OnePlus 7T holds an edge when it comes to charging but the margin is very close.

One thing that the Galaxy S10 Lite has is support for 45W fast charging so considering overall battery life and charging speed, the Galaxy S10 Lite outclasses the OnePlus 7T.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite vs OnePlus 7T Sound Quality:

Both the smartphones don't have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The OnePlus 7T has support for stereo speakers where the loudspeaker grill at the bottom with the earpiece on top together acts as stereo speakers. The sound output is very good and it also comes with Dolby Atmos.

The Galaxy S10 Lite comes with a single loudspeaker which is adequately loud and clear. The OnePlus 7T is better when it comes to sound quality.

But the Galaxy S10 Lite provides USB Type-C AKG earphones inside the box whereas the OnePlus 7T doesn't get any earphones.

Verdict:

It has been a very tough call between the two as one outclasses the other in different areas. The OnePlus 7T has a better build and design and combined with a 90Hz display it provides a very good experience. It also has the faster chipset Snapdragon 855+ combined with faster UFS 3.0 storage. The sound quality also holds an edge over the Galaxy S10 Lite.

Both have very good software but here also the OnePlus 7T with the OxygenOS holds a slight edge. The cameras at the back are good but here the Galaxy S10 Lite trumps the OnePlus 7T as it takes better photos, has better lowlight performance, and those video modes like Live Focus, Super Steady are just amazing.

Then there is better battery life and support for 45W fast charging which is insane. The punch hole cutout in the display looks fantastic and provides a unique look to the smartphone. Snapdragon 855, 4500mAh battery, faster charging, excellent triple cameras at the back, the Galaxy S10 Lite is one of the best smartphones that money can buy.

Now talking about price, Samsung has priced the Galaxy S10 Lite very aggressively at Rs.39999 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage which is sheer value for money if you see a Samsung smartphone having almost all the internals at half of the price of its flagship the Galaxy S10+. With ICICI debit and credit cards you can get additional discounts also.

The OnePlus 7T with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model was launched at Rs.38,999 and now it starts at Rs.34,999 making it sheer value for money. There is another variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage priced at Rs.37,999 thus keeping the price of all models below the price of the Galaxy S10 Lite.

To conclude, if you want a better build and design, 90Hz display, better software, faster performance, better sound quality and a good set of cameras then consider the OnePlus 7T or else if you want the best camera performance with better battery life and that punch-hole display, the Galaxy S10 Lite fits very well. You can't go wrong by choosing any one of these.

Considering everything, the OnePlus 7T holds a slight edge over the Galaxy S10 Lite on an overall basis.
