OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+: Which is the best for you to consider among the two great flagships?

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+

Can the OnePlus 7 Pro beat the Galaxy Note 10 Plus?

OnePlus and Samsung are neck in neck when it comes to premium smartphones in the market. Each year both the smartphone manufacturers launch their flagship devices with top of line chipset from Qualcomm and Samsung releases its flagship smartphone with two chipsets depending on the region either with an Exynos or Snapdragon chipset.

This year OnePlus came with four models named OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro and later it came with the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro with Android 10 out of the box. Samsung like each year launches two of its devices which is the S series smartphone with various models and Note series for those who want the ease of the S-Pen functionality.

Samsung Galaxy S10 series was launched this year and later this year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ came and took away the market with new looks and attractive colors. The OnePlus 7 Pro has a lower price tag whereas the Galaxy Note 10+ has the ease of S-Pen and extra features.

Here we pit the OnePlus 7 Pro against the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and see which is the best flagship smartphone between the two?

And we will also see whether the Galaxy Note 10+ worth the extra money?

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Design:

In terms of design, both the smartphones are well built and sports glass and metal designs at the back. The Galaxy Note 10+ sports a stunning new gradient design on the Aura Glow Option. The Galaxy Note 10+ has a huge screen-to-body ratio and there aren't many bezels on the sides making the device look very attractive.

On the front of the display punch-hole front camera on top of the screen in the middle. The sides of the Galaxy Note 10+ house the volume controls and power button. Samsung also has a dedicated button for Bixby which can be mapped to any control.

On top, there is a secondary noise-canceling microphone and SIM tray that is a hybrid slot. On the bottom, there is the loudspeaker vent with the USB Type-C port and the S-Pen lair where the S-Pen is kept. The beauty of the Samsung Note series smartphones is the usability of the S-Pen and with the Galaxy Note 10+, it's even better.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 7 Pro has gone for a full-screen display on the front with the screen being curved at the edges and the front camera module arises from the top of the smartphone in the form of pop up one.

The back of the smartphone looks really good with the Nebula Blue or Almond White color. On the sides, there is the power button, volume controls, and OnePlus alert slider to control all notifications. On top, there is the pop-up camera module and secondary microphone.

At the bottom, there is the loudspeaker vent with the dual SIM tray. Like the Galaxy Note 10+, the OnePlus 7 Pro does not support microSD card expansion. Though the OnePlus 7 Pro holds a smaller battery at 4000mAh it is still slightly heavier compared to the Galaxy Note 10+.

The Galaxy Note 10+ holds an edge over the OnePlus 7 Pro as it gets Wireless charging on the back and is IP68 dust and water-resistant compared to P2i nano-coating on the OnePlus 7 Pro. Both smartphones miss on the 3.5mm headphone jack though Samsung provides Type-C earphones in the box.

The build on both the smartphones is really good right now in the market as one going for punch-hole display and the other with the full-screen display with the pop-up front camera.

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Display:

In terms of display, both the devices come with large displays and an AMOLED panel. The OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a 6.67 inches Quad HD+ (3120 x 1440 pixels) which supports a 90Hz display for smoother animations and faster scrolling through applications.

The Galaxy Note 10+ sports a slightly larger screen at 6.8 inches Quad HD+ (3040 x 1440 pixels) and supports only a 60Hz refresh rate like all other smartphones. Though the Galaxy Note 10+ has Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back compared to the Gorilla Glass 5 on the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Both the displays look excellent when viewing content with deep blacks and blues. Both devices get a Blue Light filter to view content at night and save battery.

When taken in direct sunlight, the screen on the OnePlus 7 Pro provides better visibility than the Galaxy Note 10+ but while watching videos or playing games, the Galaxy Note 10+ with the enhanced display settings provides the best color accuracy between the two.

Both the phones come with an in-display fingerprint scanner where the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with an optical in-display one, the Galaxy Note 10+ comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner like on its own sibling Samsung Galaxy S10+.

Both the fingerprint scanners are very fast and accurate but with the Galaxy Note 10+, you won't require much effort as slight of touch will unlock the device as ultrasonic recognize faster.

Both screens are good and it's the OnePlus 7 Pro that edges here with the higher refresh rate providing smoother scrolling through applications and games.

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Performance:

When it comes to performance, both the devices are equally matched as both sports the top of the line chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, and Samsung also ships an Exynos chipset depending on which region you are in.

In Europe and some parts of America and Asia get the Exynos 9825 chipset which is based on the 7nm process and it is built on a EUV architecture rather than the LPP architecture.

The OnePlus 7 Pro and Galaxy Note 10+ sport a Snapdragon 855 chipset that has 1x2.84 GHz Kryo 485 Prime core + 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 485 cores for higher performance and 4x1.78 GHz Kryo 485 cores for power efficiency coupled with an Adreno 640 GPU built on 7nm LPP process.

The Exynos 9825 sports 2x2.73 GHz Mongoose M4 cores+2x2.4 GHz Cortex A75 cores and 4x1.9 GHz Cortex A55 cores coupled with Mali-G76 GPU built on the same 7nm process as the Snapdragon 855 but this time Samsung has gone for the EUV process architecture.

Both smartphones breeze through all applications smoothly and with gaming both the devices provide the best gaming experience as all high-end games like PUBG, Asphalt 9 Extreme ran in the highest graphics settings very smoothly.

But the gaming was slightly better on the Snapdragon variant compared to the Exynos variant as the Adreno 640 GPU in Snapdragon 855 has better gaming capabilities over the Mali-G76 MP12 GPU in the Exynos 9825.

When it comes to storage and RAM, the Galaxy Note 10+ starts with 256GB storage as a base and goes up to 512GB storage. It is available in a 12GB RAM configuration only.

On the other hand, OnePlus 7 Pro ships with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, 8GB RAM, and 128GB storage and tops at 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

The Galaxy Note 10+ gets UFS 2.1 storage whereas the OnePlus 7 Pro ships with UFS 3.0 storage which is faster compared to the Galaxy Note 10+.

On an overall basis, both the devices are powerhouses when it comes to gaming and day to day multitasking and you can't go wrong with anyone of them.

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Software:

This is one place where OnePlus has always proved an upper hand over Samsung. OnePlus 7 Pro comes with OxygenOS built on top of Android Pie and the phone has already received the Android 10 update. OxygenOS provides almost close to Stock Android experience.

With the latest OxygenOS 10, the OnePlus 7 Pro gets some new features like system-wide dark mode, different customizations to the icon pack, and the gesture controls are almost close to Google's Pixel devices. Over the past few years, OxygenOS has always provided one of the fastest software and security updates.

Samsung hasn't been far behind as with each iteration of its OneUI the experience is getting better and better for all of its devices.

The Galaxy Note 10+ comes with OneUI 1.0 built on top of Android 9 Pie. Samsung will update the device very soon to Android 10 as it has just now rolled the beta update of Android 10 for the Galaxy Note 10+. OneUI brings many new features into the devices as the icons are more rounded and can be customized and the UI is much smoother to use.

Applications open much faster and you get many new features like edge lighting around the punch hole camera and at the edges, dark mode and edge can be used for accessing applications when needed. The Power Modes are also well optimized and Samsung seems to have worked on the animations for a smoother experience.

With the ease of S-Pen, the Galaxy Note 10+ takes the experience to the next level as it can easily recognize texts and it comes with 3D ToFsensor to pick up a face and start drawing on top.

Coming to future software and security updates, the OnePlus 7 Pro edges ahead of the Galaxy Note 10+ and with the OxygenOS it is a treat to use.

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Camera:

Both the smartphones sport a triple camera setup at the back. On the Galaxy Note 10+, there is the same camera setup which is seen on the Galaxy S10+. But here it offers a couple of improvements both in hardware as well as software.

There is a 3D ToF sensor to help with scene depth mapping while taking portraits. The three cameras are a 12MP main camera with a dual aperture as it can focus from f/1.5 to f/2.4 depending on lighting conditions, a 12MP f/2.1 telephoto lens for close up shots, and a 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens for wider aperture. All the cameras have OIS and EIS.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a 48MP f/1.6 main camera that is a Sony IMX586 sensor + 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens. However here only the main camera that is the 48MP one and the telephoto lens is having OIS.

The images come out to be good from both the main cameras but the image on the Galaxy Note 10+ come out to be slightly better with good color reproduction in the background and more natural-looking than on the OnePlus 7 Pro but when zoomed into a picture, the OnePlus 7 Pro provides clearer details as the 48MP images due to pixel binning process into 12MP by default.

In terms of dynamic range, the Galaxy Note 10+ betters the OnePlus 7 Pro. With the HDR on both take good images but when it comes to Portraits with a 3D ToF sensor, the Galaxy Note 10+ provides better edge detection and proper background blur than the OnePlus 7 Pro.

With the dedicated night modes on both the devices, the images come out to be good but here with the new enhanced Night Mode on the Galaxy Note 10+ the images in the dark come out to be well lit and there is not much noise in the background compared to the OnePlus 7 Pro which has a little bit of overexposure in the images.

With the ultrawide camera, both the phones shoot good images but the images come out to be sharper and more natural-looking in the Galaxy Note 10+ than on the OnePlus 7 Pro. The OnePlus 7 Pro also shoots good wider images but sometimes there is overexposure and over sharpness takes place. Nonetheless, both are good when taking wider shots.

The telephoto lens on both the devices work equally well. Both have 2x zoom capabilities and here the Galaxy Note 10+ has the edge as it gets a Night Mode which the Galaxy S10+ lacked and also the OnePlus 7 Pro misses.

With the HDR the images on both come out to excellent but the Galaxy Note 10+ has a better dynamic range in the images.

Coming to videos, both the devices support 4k at 60fps and also have the capability to shoot through telephoto and an ultrawide lens.

The Galaxy Note 10+ has better video stabilization and the dynamic range is better than on the OnePlus 7 Pro. In the ultrawide videos, the Galaxy Note 10+ takes better videos than the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Coming to telephoto both take good videos. With the 3D ToF sensor, you get much better focusing and background details on the videos shot on the Galaxy Note 10+.

On the front, the Galaxy Note 10+ comes with a 10MP camera whereas the OnePlus 7 Pro has a 16MP f/2.0 camera.

The portraits on both the devices come out to be great and since the Galaxy Note 10+ comes with the Live Focus feature that takes excellent selfies and portraits by providing perfect background blur as well as in videos.

That doesn't mean selfies and portraits on the OnePlus 7 Pro is not far behind, it also captures good ones and provides better dynamic range, and shots taken look wider than on the Galaxy Note 10+.

Both can shoot 1080p videos on the front but the Galaxy Note 10+ shoots better videos with better stabilization than the OnePlus 7 Pro. The extra features like the 3D ToF sensor in the Galaxy Note 10+ help it edges over the OnePlus 7 Pro when it comes to rear cameras overall.

In terms of cameras, the Galaxy Note 10+ is a clear winner over the OnePlus 7 Pro.

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Battery Life:

Here both the devices get a decent battery capacity to power those Quad HD+ displays. With the OnePlus 7 Pro, there is a 4000mAh battery that supports faster Warp Charge using the Wrap Charge 30T charger bundled in the box.

The Galaxy Note 10+ has a 4300mAh battery that supports even faster charging than the OnePlus 7 Pro as it can go up to 45W of fast charging. But Samsung has only bundled the Galaxy Note 10+ with a 25W fast charger.

Coming to battery life both smartphones can easily pull throughout the day and at the end of the day, both have a minimum of 15-20 percent left in the tank.

Well if you consider the standard screen on time on both the devices, the Galaxy Note 10+ provides 6-7 hours which is better than the 5-6 hours on the OnePlus 7 Pro as it uses a 90Hz panel which does consume battery and with 300mAh more, the Galaxy Note 10+ provides marginally better battery life.

Now taking the charging speeds into consideration, the OnePlus 7 Pro charges from 0-60 percent in the first half an hour and till 100 percent within 70mins. The Galaxy Note 10+ charges 0-50 percent in 30 mins and completely within 75mins.

Warp Charge 30

With the 45W fast charger, the Galaxy Note 10+ can easily charge fully up to 100 percent under an hour. For this, you have to buy the 45W charger separately.

The Galaxy Note 10+ has one advantage over the OnePlus 7 Pro in the battery department as it gets wireless charging and reverse wireless charging which both the OnePlus 7 Pro lacks.

Plus the back of the Galaxy Note 10+ like the Galaxy S10+ can charge devices supporting wireless charging like another Galaxy Note 10+ or the Galaxy EarBuds. This feature is called Wireless PowerShare found both in the Galaxy S10+ and Note10 series.

With a better screen on time and marginally better battery life than the OnePlus 7 Pro. It also supports faster-charging speeds, wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare gives the edge over the OnePlus 7 Pro.

OnePlus 7 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Sound Quality:

Neither of the devices comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Both the devices are good when it comes to audio output as both get stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos. Both have downwards firing speakers at the bottom and loudspeaker over the bezels.

With both the speakers, the devices provide stereo effect, and with Dolby Atmos present, the sound output is amazing. The sound output on the Galaxy Note 10+ is marginally better than one on the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Another advantage with the Galaxy Note 10+ is that it provides USB Type-C earphones in the box which the OnePlus 7 Pro lacks.

Verdict:

Both the devices are a beast when it comes to performance and gaming and both have very good displays to view content and play games. When it comes to displays, the OnePlus 7 Pro holds the edge over the Galaxy Note 10+ as it gets the 90Hz refresh rate over the 60Hz on the Note.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is faster when it comes to software and security updates and has already received the Android 10 update. It has a very good build and great cameras but the Galaxy Note 10+ provides better images and videos from the rear and front cameras, better battery life, and supports faster charging up to 45W.

OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a 30W charger which is faster than the 25W charger on the Galaxy Note 10+. With the Galaxy Note 10+, you get higher storage and RAM options.

The price is the main trump card for the OnePlus 7 Pro as it starts at Rs.44,999 compared to the Galaxy Note 10+ which starts at Rs.79,999 which is much more expensive.

If you want the best of the cameras, higher battery life, good display, and those extra features such as wireless charging and power share then the Galaxy Note 10+ is the one to go. Plus the S-Pen with new features provides ease of use.

On an overall basis, the Galaxy Note 10+ with the higher price wins the battle but if the value for money is your priority, the OnePlus 7 Pro is the one to go for as it comes with a top-notch display and software.

It is much cheaper which almost a fraction of the price that the flagships cost. With extra features and cameras, Galaxy Note 10+ wins and when the value for money is what you are looking for, then consider the OnePlus 7 Pro wins.
